LAET Creates Toll Free Latino Hotline for Spanish Speaking Clients.

The Latino hotline is a phone number that can be used by Spanish speakers in the 27 counties of East Tennessee to reach an LAET staff person who speaks their own language. This number can be called for no charge at 1-866-408-6573. The hotline was initiated in February 2004, and calls are returned personally by the Spanish speaking staff person on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The use of the hotline has grown rapidly since its initiation, and we look to the possibility of having full-time Latino staff in the future.

By the end of the first six months of the hotline, an average of 10 calls per week were being received. Most calls have been generated from areas surrounding apartment complexes, Mexican stores and restaurants or other places of business where Spanish language flyers were previously distributed. Our experience is demonstrating the value of the hotline to “our newest neighbors” and the need for specialized means of outreach.

La linea latino es un número de teléfono que puede ser usado en 27 condados del este de Tennessee para personas que solamente hablan español para alcanzar un persona de la offecina de LAET quién les puede contestar en su propia lenguaje. Este número es una llamada gratis a 1-866-408-6573. La linea comenzo in Febrero en 2004, y las llamadas son regresadas en persona cada martes, miercoles y jueves. El uso de la línea directa ha crecido rápidamente desde su iniciación y nosotros contemplamos la posibilidad de tener el personal de latino completa en el futuro.
