Legal Aid of East Tennessee’s Pro Se / Self Help Divorce Project

LAET sponsors self-help divorce clinics for low-income residents of several of the counties in the LAET service area. In the Northern Region the clinic is available to people living in Washington, Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Sullivan counties; in the Central Region the clinic is currently not available to people in Knox county, and in the Southern Region the clinic is available to people in Bradley, Polk and Bledsoe Counties. More clinics will be offered in other counties in the future

The clinic is for people who want to file their own divorce, have no property or debts to divide, and who have children. Clinic participants will be required to attend a clinic that lasts approximately four hours, and couples with children must complete an AGREED parenting plan with their spouse. If parents are not able to agree on a parenting plan mediation services may be available.

To be eligible to participate in the free clinic you must be income eligible for legal services and be a citizen or documented resident of the United States. If you are interested in more information about the self help divorce clinic you can call LAET at (423) 928-8311 or 1-800-821-1312 if you live in Washington, Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Sullivan counties; (423) 479-8577 if you live in Bradley or Polk counties; or (423) 756-4013 if you live in Bledsoe county.
