Pro Bono

9/14/2009
“Sandy” was a server at a local restaurant, working between 70 and 80 hours per week.

She asked LAET for help when the restaurant closed and the owners failed to give her a final paycheck, which Sandy estimated to be around $1,000. LAET referred the case to Betsy Beck and John Rayson, two private attorney’s who volunteer through LAET’s Pro Bono Project. They discovered that the employer had been paying Sandy for a 40-hour week, regardless of how much overtime she worked, which Sandy did not know was illegal. Because of Betsy and John, Sandy collected $3,177 in back wages.
